Stuck in a post high-school limbo, Tammy works long days in the family chip shop.


The only relief from the daily slog is her friendship with her colleague Jordan and her love for photography. Through the people around her, Tammy soon realises she can't avoid her future.


Alia Ghafar is a filmmaker based in Glasgow, who graduated from the Film & TV programme at

Edinburgh College of Art. 


SALT & SAUCE is Alia's graduation film and premiered at the 61st BFI London Film Festival 2017.


Since then the film has screened at festivals in the UK and internationally, such as Edinburgh International Film Festival, London Short Film Festival, British Shorts Berlin and Underwire.


SALT & SAUCE won the Scottish Short Film Award at Glasgow Short Film Festival 2018 and was nominated for Best British Short Film at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards 2019.

In March 2019, SALT & SAUCE was broadcast on BBC Scotland, as part of their series

NEXT BIG THING, which profiles award-winning new Scottish filmmakers and their work.


SALT & SAUCE is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.


Alia is continuing to develop work which captures the experiences of young people in contemporary Scotland.


Her next short film, SCUZZ, has been shortlisted for development with Scottish Film Talent Network, as part of their Scottish Shorts 2019 programme, supported by Screen Scotland and BFI NETWORK.

Alia has been selected as a Writer/Director for the BFI NETWORK X BAFTA CREW 2019 professional development scheme.
